Celebrating Teamwork and Community Spirit at 20th Nadi International Airport Business House Volleyball Tournament

Over 50 business houses from across the country gathered at St. Mary’s School grounds in Nadi on Saturday September 14th, for the much-anticipated 20th anniversary of the Nadi International Airport Business House Volleyball Tournament (NIAV).

What began as a small in-house event for airport workers in 2004 with just 16 teams has now evolved into a major annual gathering, with 109 teams competing in five categories: Women’s, Men’s, Mixed, Men’s Masters, Mixed Masters, and Invitational.

For Wormald Fire & Security and Guardforce Fiji, this event goes beyond the sport—it strengthens relationships with other business houses, fosters camaraderie, and helps us give back to the community. We’ve participated in the NIAV since its conception, and every year, we leave with new experiences, friendships, and an even deeper connection to our values as a company.

With 56 of our employees from both the Suva and Nadi branches, we entered six teams across five categories this year, including Women’s, Men’s, Mixed, Masters, and Invitational. Last year, we celebrated victories in the Women’s and Mixed categories, and the energy was high as we aimed to defend our titles.

Although we didn’t take home the championship trophies this year, our Women’s and Invitational teams proudly made it to the semi-finals, showing resilience and teamwork every step of the way.

The significance of the tournament extends beyond the competition. Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to WOWS Kids Fiji, a charity dedicated to helping children in Fiji fight cancer.

The generosity of sponsors such as Vodafone Fiji, Captain Cook Cruises, Fiji Water, Prouds Motibhai, Jacks of Fiji, and Coca-Cola helped make this year’s tournament a success, raising awareness and funds for a noble cause.

Wormald Fire & Security and Guardforce Fiji’s participation didn’t stop at volleyball; we were also proud to contribute to a fundraiser supporting the Nadi Barracuda Swim Team’s upcoming camp in Hong Kong by selling small bags of kava during the event.

Mr. Anthony from Wormald’s Fire Department, who competed in the Men’s category, emphasized how events like this help foster team building, a crucial aspect of our corporate values of “Teamwork” and “Customer Service“. He shared,

This tournament strengthens the bonds between colleagues, which is essential for delivering top-quality service to our customers,”.

As a company, we take pride in these values, which drive everything we do, both within the workplace and in our engagement with the broader community.

The event was also an opportunity to connect with other businesses.

A representative from Vodafone Fiji Limited stated,

The NIAV was a great event to foster connections and relationships between different businesses in Viti Levu. It was an opportunity to network, share experiences, and build on our community”.

Ms. Rosie Talei from KPMG humorously noted,

As a chartered accounting firm, we’re often seen as the bad guys who audit accounts, but this tournament has allowed us to socialize and meet other stakeholders in a more casual setting”.

Ms. Namrata from South Sea Cruises echoed similar sentiments, sharing that her HR team saw this event as the perfect platform to build team spirit.

For first-time participants like Ms. Umeshni from TTF and ATS Pacific, the event offered a refreshing break from the routine office environment. She said with a smile,

“It’s a good change from sitting in an air-conditioned office for 40 hours a week. I’m especially proud to be the only Indo-Fijian lady on my team,”.

The tournament was a day filled with camaraderie, fun, and spirited competition. Wormald Fire & Security and Guardforce Fiji are immensely grateful to be part of such a meaningful event, and we look forward to next year’s competition.

We congratulate all the participants and thank the organizers for their hard work behind the scenes in making the 20th anniversary of NIAV a memorable one.

Here’s to teamwork, community, and another fantastic year at the NIAV!
