Wormald Fire and Security Strengthens Workplace Safety Through Specialized Training

Safety remains a key priority across Wormald Fire & Security, with technicians from our Suva Installs and Nadi Fire teams recently completing specialised training to strengthen their skills and competency when working at elevated locations.

The Suva Installs team completed the Working at Height Safety (PII0021) Training in July, while the Nadi Fire team completed the Erect and Dismantle Restricted Height Scaffold Training through two training blocks held in March and April. All training sessions were organised by Fiji National University (FNU).

A total of 7 technicians from the Suva Installs team attended the Working at Height Safety training, while 19 technicians from the Nadi Fire team participated in the Erect and Dismantle Restricted Height Scaffold training.

The training sessions focused on important safety requirements associated with working at elevated locations, including understanding relevant legislative requirements, identifying and assessing potential hazards, determining appropriate equipment and responsibilities, developing safe work procedures, and demonstrating the correct use of equipment and safety procedures.

This type of training is particularly important for our technicians, who regularly carry out installation, servicing and maintenance work on electronic security and fire safety systems at elevated locations, including ceilings, rooftops, poles and elevated platforms. Equipping technicians with the appropriate knowledge and practical skills helps them identify potential risks, conduct effective risk assessments and use the necessary safety equipment correctly, reducing the likelihood of falls and workplace injuries.

As part of the Working at Height Safety training, participants were required to complete a Job Safety Analysis and Permit to Work exercise based on a working-at-height scenario, as well as complete a written assessment.

The training course covers the basic requirements relating to working at heights under Fiji’s Health and Safety at Work Act 1996 and the Health and Safety at Work (General Workplace Conditions) Regulations 2003.

Maintaining a workforce of trained and competent technicians also strengthens Wormald Fire & Security’s ability to undertake a wider range of commercial, industrial and government projects, many of which require contractors to demonstrate appropriate safety training and competency as part of their requirements.

The relevant certifications will be renewed in accordance with FNU’s validity periods and Wormald Fire & Security’s safety requirements. Refresher training may also be undertaken where required due to changes in work practices, equipment or legislative requirements, ensuring our technicians remain competent and up to date with safe working procedures.

The successful completion of these training programmes reinforces Wormald Fire & Security’s commitment to protecting our people, meeting client safety expectations and delivering safe, reliable and professional services.
