Guardforce Fiji Conducts Inaugural In-House ICAO Aviation Security Training Programme (ASTP)
We, Guardforce Fiji, have reached an important milestone in strengthening our aviation security capabilities with the commencement of our first-ever in-house International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation Security Training Programme (ASTP).
The inaugural ASTP commenced on Wednesday 30th September 2026, and will run until Monday 12th October 2026, with 29 newly recruited Aviation Security Personnel participating in the training.
The ASTP is being conducted by our Aviation Security Trainer, Mrs. Ana Duta, who completed her Trainers Subject Matter Expert (SME) examination in July 2026 following her ICAO certification, through the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF).
Mrs. Duta’s successful certification now enables us to conduct the ASTP in-house, marking a significant step forward in our company’s aviation security training capabilities.
The ICAO ASTP is designed to ensure that Aviation Security Personnel are equipped with the appropriate knowledge and skills to follow established security procedures and respond effectively to threats and emergencies within aviation security facilities.
As part of the training, participants are undertaking both theoretical and practical components based on the ICAO ASTP module. The training includes an orientation tour of the airport, as well as practical exercises covering key aviation security procedures, including the correct use of handheld metal detectors, pat-down procedures, baggage searches, vehicle searches and room searches.
At the end of the training, participants will sit an examination. Those who complete the requirements will receive an ICAO ASTP Certificate of Completion, a valuable professional certification that remains valid for a lifetime.
Importantly, all our Guardforce Fiji’s Aviation Security Personnel have completed the ASTP and obtained the corresponding certificate. This reflects our commitment to ensuring our Aviation Security Personnel are appropriately trained and prepared for the responsibilities of their roles.
Through our investment in specialised training and the development of in-house expertise, we at Guardforce Fiji continue to strengthen the knowledge, skills and readiness of our Aviation Security Personnel. This ensures they are better equipped to identify and mitigate potential risks and respond effectively to unforeseen situations, supporting the wider efforts of Fiji’s aviation stakeholders in maintaining safe and secure skies across Fiji.
